Leiona Islam

Leiona currently has 50+ personally curated playlists on Spotify, including one that has every song she’s listened to on the platform starting using it in 2012 (it’s at 3,000+ songs).

Leiona moved from Bruce Springsteen’s hometown to Seattle, never having owned rainboots before and hating the smell of coffee. Having graduated from American University in DC with an international relations degree focusing on global health, Leiona is passionate about how environmental justice benefits from centering community engagement. This passion has bought her a range of experiences: from children’s non-profits in Nairobi, Kenya to grassroots organizing on the Jersey Shore. A project that is closest to Leiona’s heart is her involvement in her Bangladeshi community, from planning large-scale celebratory festivals to hosting cross-cultural talks. Leiona sees how utilizing communication and community involvement benefits the support for public projects through all these activities. After clocking out, you can find Leiona trying her best to find a bagel comparable to the ones back home or helping her mom choreograph new dance routines for the family’s dance school.
