A familiar saying at EnviroIssues is that we strive to make the communities where we work and play better places. This is no empty statement; we act on our words. On Veteran’s Day 2014, our staff in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Colorado participated in the EI Day of Service, giving back to the places we call home. Spanning four states, two time zones and 70 employees— we volunteered more than 173 hours across nine great service projects.
In Seattle, 63 EnviroIssues staffers scattered about the city and beyond. We were at Westside Baby sorting essential clothing items for children throughout Seattle. We helped at local food banks at Pike Market and Cherry Street. We even ventured up to Shoreline to the Food Life Line and helped package frozen produce to be shipped to families in need. And what would volunteering be without the removal of invasive species down on the Duwamish? We were there too! But it wasn’t just our headquarters in Seattle that gave back. Our Portland staff helped clean up the Springwater Corridor on the Willamette River. Boise went to their local Rescue Mission, and Colorado gave time to Clothes for Kids in Denver. Our volunteers gained a better sense of the needs of our communities and ideas for how we can continue to support these great organizations.
